How can I remove excessive hair?
There are several methods available for hair removal — some provide temporary results, while others offer long-term reduction. Temporary methods such as shaving, waxing, depilatory creams, and plucking often lead to inflammation of hair follicles and ingrown hairs, causing irritation and frustration.
For longer-lasting results, methods that destroy the hair follicles and roots are preferred. Laser hair removal is recommended by our dermatologists as it allows for precise and selective destruction of hair follicles without damaging surrounding skin.
The laser energy targets pigment within the hair follicle, and the heat generated destroys the follicle. Modern hair removal lasers include integrated cooling systems to minimise discomfort and reduce side effects, especially in darker skin types.
Will I have a good response to this laser?
Patients with dark hair and fair skin typically respond best to laser hair removal. However, settings can be customised for different skin types to achieve optimal outcomes. White or grey hairs, which lack pigment, do not respond to laser.
For best results, multiple sessions spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart are recommended. While treated areas may not become completely hair-free, remaining hairs will be finer and lighter in colour, giving a smoother overall appearance.
